Robotics: Instructional Manual. The North Dakota High Technology Mobile Laboratory Project.
Auer, Herbert J.
This instructional manual contains 20 learning activity packets for use in a workshop on robotics. The lessons cover the following topics: safety considerations in robotics; introduction to technology-level and coordinate-systems categories; the teach pendant (a hand-held computer, usually attached to the robot controller, with which the operator can guide the robot through a series of points or in a motion pattern); the robot's main structure; robotics maintenance and troubleshooting; robot waist, bicep, and elbow actions; robot wrist flex and rotate actions; robotic end-effectors and actions; the robot's working envelope; the "hard" and "soft" home positions/movements; teach pendant: the "LEARN" A sequence mode; teach pendant: "EDITing" a LEARNed program; the robot's drive train and drive-motor steps; robotics feedback, optical encoders, and drive-motors; robotics end-effector placement specifications; robot pick-and-place operations; robot point-to-point operations; robot continuous path operations; robot program loading; robotics languages; and the future of robotics. Each learning activity packet lists prerequisites, purpose, and competencies to be developed and contains information sheets, illustrations, and learning activities. A lengthy appendix to the instructor's manual explains the XR series teach pendant. (KC)
