This textbook is designed for advanced classes in reading. It is adapted to this purpose by the following characteristics: (1) There is great variety in style and subjects; (2) the exercises are of a highly elevated character; (3) rhetorical rules and notation, exercises in articulation, definition, and the like are excluded as they have been extensively covered. This book is thus adapted to general practice in reading, and with the preceding volumes of this series or any other of similar character, will furnish an abundant amount of matter for a thorough course in this department.
