Increasing Awareness of Child Find for Preschool Children through Videotape Presentations at Community and Day Care Centers.
Operach, Paul M.
Child Find is the name of a public school outreach effort to identify 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children in need of supportive services. This practicum addressed the need to extend Child Find activities in an urban setting. The goals of the practicum were to (1) expand the Child Find effort using an existing program, (2) develop a videotape about Child Find for use in the community, and (3) communicate the importance of Child Find to community members. Fifteen professionals and 52 community members took part in the practicum. All participants attended presentations, which included a showing of the videotape, and completed a questionnaire designed to assess responses to the videotape. The outcomes of the practicum indicated increased awareness and knowledge of the Child Find process and of the public schools' programs. The videotape and discussions stimulated interest and curiosity. (Author/PCB)
