A Monograph on Interpersonal Communications.
Gemmet, Richard
Intended for use by managers, this guide is meant to focus attention on communication skills and to provide a new approach to improving interpersonal communications. The authors divide these skills into two categories--listening and speaking. Effective listening entails skillful use of paraphrasing (any method of showing the speaker what his or her idea or statement conveys) and perception checking (a process describing the listener's perceptions of the speaker's feelings). Effective speaking necessitates describing feelings and behavior, using constructive confrontation, and giving and receiving feedback. Exercises are appended that are intended to give the reader opportunity to practice these skills. (Author/DS)
