Peer reviewedBrehmer, Berndt; Dorner, Dietrich – Computers in Human Behavior, 1993
Discusses experimental work with computer-simulated microworlds as a means for overcoming the tension between laboratory research and field research in psychology. Topics addressed include characteristics of microworlds; examples of microworlds; and three approaches to research with microworlds, including the individual differences approach, case…

Peer reviewedKuhl, Julius; Blankenship, Virginia – Psychological Review, 1979
Atkinson and Birch's dynamic theory of action is discussed with regard to achievement motivation theory. Implications are derived that are in contrast to expectations derived from traditional episodic theories. Implications of dynamic theory for the theory of fear of failure are discussed. Recent results support the dynamic theory. (Author/RD)

Carroll, John B. – 1980
Fifty-five recent studies of individual differences (IDs) in elementary cognitive tasks (ECTs) are reviewed. Twenty-five data sets are examined, analyzed, or reanalyzed by factor analysis. The following promising dimensions are identified: basic perceptual processes, reaction and movement times, mental comparison and recognition tasks, retrieval…

Peer reviewedMandinach, Ellen B.; Linn, Marcia C. – Journal of Educational Computing Research, 1986
In this review of the research on how current computer learning environments can foster the acquisition of complex cognitive skills, two issues emerge: (1) what cognitive accomplishments are likely in the computer environment; and (2) what factors predispose students to benefit from the environment.
