Sanetti, Lisa M. Hagermoser; Dobey, Lisa M.; Gritter, Katie L. – Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, 2012
For more than 10 years, the "Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions" has published, among other types of articles, behavioral intervention outcome studies related to positive behavior support. Operationally defining interventions is important to facilitating replication studies and adoption of intervention in applied settings. Furthermore,…

Peterson, Lizette; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1982
A survey of articles in the "Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis" (1968-1980) demonstrated that the majority of articles published do not use any assessment of the actual occurrence of the independent variable and a sizable minority do not provide operational definitions of the independent variable. The feasibility and utility of ensuring the…

Shelly, Bryan – Journal of Educational Research & Policy Studies, 2007
What role does a person's support for local educational control play in determining her attitude towards equity-minded school finance reform? This article reports estimations of binary and ordered probit models of two state public opinion polls and discusses newspaper coverage from the same two states to determine if and how local control has such…

Hungerford, Harold R. – Journal of Interpretation Research, 1996
Traditional thinking links environmental knowledge to awareness followed by action. However, research suggests that environmental education would be more effective if based on levels of variables involved in environmental citizenship behavior: entry-level (sensitivity, ecology knowledge, androgyny, attitudes); ownership (knowledge of issues,…

Wineburg, Samuel S. – Educational Researcher, 1987
This rejoinder reiterates the author's position that the self-fulfilling prophesy phenomenon can not be proved. Unsuccessful efforts to replicate the "Pygmalion" study are presented. Because replication is essential to proofs in behavioral science research, the phenomenon can not be considered valid to behavioral scientists. (VM)

Taylor, Shelley E. – American Psychologist, 1990
Reviews scientific and professional trends in the field of health psychology. Discusses recent research on health promotion, psychological factors in the development of illness, cognitive representations of health and illness, stress and coping, social support, interventions to promote coping, and trends that will affect progress in the field.…

Wineburg, Samuel S. – Educational Researcher, 1987
There is not much evidence that supports the notion of the self-fulfilling prophecy as applied to teachers' expectations of students. The "Pygmalion" study is often cited by courts and in the media; but it is highly criticized in scholarly circles, and its findings could not be replicated. (VM)
