Distance Education for All Ages in Minnesota: The K-12 Systems Perspective.
Minnesota State Dept. of Education, St. Paul. Instructional Design Section.
This report describes two-way interactive television and its use by Minnesota's elementary and secondary schools, and discusses the potential of two-way interactive television systems for education in the next decade. While the report describes a diversity of current uses of two-way interactive television, it is argued that these applications by no means represent the limits of these systems. It is noted that the obvious educational advantage of two-way educational television is that learners can participate in specialized classes offered from area schools or school districts without traveling. The four chapters provide: (1) an introduction to two-way interactive television and classroom design; (2) descriptions of interactive television programming for elementary and secondary schools, adult courses, special events, inter-school/inter-departmental uses, and unique by-products; (3) information on interfacing interactive television with other technologies; and (4) individual system profiles of regional districts and their interactive television projects. Maps, contact names, and telephone numbers are included. (DB)
