The Analysis of Learning Potential was developed to assist counselors and teachers to formulate more realistic academic expectations in view of the pupil's estimated learning potential. Results of the study suggest that the instrument does have the predictive characteristics that might be expected of a general academic aptitude measure. (Author)

Describes a simulation method for observing career information-seeking behavior. The Career Information Request (CIR) was tested at a Career Development Day for 53 high school juniors. No clear pattern of internal consistency was found among students' responses to the seven information opportunities. (JAC)

Tested whether scores on the Self Directed Search relate to career development needs in a study of 138 college students. Findings showed the scores related differentially in ways predicted by Holland (1973) and supported probing whether college students earning low investigative scores were behind in their career development. Examined the reliability, construct validity, and predictive validity of the Non-Cognitive Questionnaire (NCQ) for different racial groups, using a sample of 1,975 Black and White college students. Results showed the NCQ significantly predicted persistence for Black students and predicted grades for both groups. (JAC)

Barclay, James R.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1983
Discussed the predictive index developed from the Barclay Classroom Climate Inventory which aids in identifying both gifted children and those in need of remedial help. Elementary school students (N=64) selected for a gifted program were studied. Results showed gifted children can be discriminated with reasonable accuracy. (JAC)

Investigated the predictive value of the high school level battery of tests of General Educational Development (GED) for two-year college academic performance, using a sample of GED freshmen (N=300). The GED proved to be a valid predictor of first semester grade point average. (Author/JAC)

Investigated whether the emphasis on ACT scores for admission to engineering school is justified. Using stepwise regression procedures, multiple regression equations were derived using data from 328 students. Assessed the degree that home educational environment predicts reading achievement and student self-esteem in a study of 253 educationally disadvantaged urban elementary school students and their parents. Results showed home environment was a significant predictor of relative and standardized achievement as well as nonacademic self-esteem. (JAC)
