Jacques Pesnot Lerousseau; Maude Denis; Stéphane Roman; Daniele Schön – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2025
Purpose: Prelingual deaf children with cochlear implants show lower digit span test scores compared to normal-hearing peers, suggesting a working memory impairment. To pinpoint more precisely the subprocesses responsible for this impairment, we designed a sequence reproduction task with varying length (two to six stimuli), modality (auditory or…

Jenny L. Singleton; Kristin Walker; Richard P. Meier; Aaron Shield – Language Acquisition: A Journal of Developmental Linguistics, 2024
Research on the acquisition of American Sign Language (ASL) by deaf autistic children has documented similarities to the linguistic profile of hearing children on the autism spectrum and has identified sign-specific phenomena that could serve as clinical markers of autism in the deaf population. Hanson, Vicki L. – Applied Psycholinguistics, 1982
The accuracy of deaf adults' letter report was greater for real and nonsense words than for pseudowords, and error analysis shows deaf adults tend to produce orthographically regular responses. These findings indicate clearly the use of orthographic structure in word recognition. (MSE)

Bragman, Ruth; Hardy, Robert – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1979

Clark, M. Diane – American Annals of the Deaf, 1991
This investigation into the information processing strategies of 12 profoundly/prelingually deaf college students found that subjects with oral/manual educational backgrounds had higher levels of recognition than did subjects from oral-only educational backgrounds. Highest recognition was to the left and right of the fixation point, followed by…
