Analyzes data from the 1984 Survey of Income and Program Participation concerning business owners as distinct from the self-employed. Findings indicate that 11.9 percent of nonagricultural workers are business owners and that 70.8 percent of businesses are sole proprietorships. (CH)

A long-term study of 456 inner-city males showed that, by age 47, the children of chronically dependent and multiproblem families were almost indistinguishable from the children of more stable families in terms of mean income, years of employment, criminality, and mental health. (CMG)
