Morton, L. L. – Canadian Journal for Exceptional Children, 1985
An investigation of spelling proficiency at the grade four level (N=174) revealed (1) pronounced gender differences favoring females, (2) program differences for two grade four spelling programs, (3) standardized test differences, (4) psychometric inconsistencies between grade equivalent and standard scores, and (5) a distinct error pattern for…

Ellis, Michael V.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1990
Conducted two studies to clarify nature of anchoring errors in clinical judgments. Judgments from 103 undergraduates in Study 1 evidenced neither anchoring errors nor gender differences. Judgments from 157 psychologists in Study 2 affirmed adjustment and mitigation hypotheses over anchoring hypothesis alone. Mitigation process appeared adaptable…

Leuenberger, Jan; Morris, Mary – Learning Disabilities Focus, 1990
Application of a quantitative and qualitative error classification system to the spelling errors of 21 learning-disabled (LD) and 21 non-learning-disabled (NLD) matched college students found LD subjects exhibited a significantly greater total spelling error rate and percentage. Differences were also found on qualitative spelling variables for…

Edwards, Jo – Australian Mathematics Teacher, 1984
On the Australian Mathematics Competition, boys responded correctly to more questions than did girls, but this difference came largely from a handful of questions. Responses to questions where sex differences occurred are discussed. (MNS)

Green, Herman G. – Journal of Psychology, 1980
Explored the relationship among conceptual tempo, age, sex, and performance of preschool children on the visual association subtest of the Illinois Test of Psycholinguistic Abilities. (Author/DB)

Diamond, Adele – Child Development, 1985
Twenty-five infants were tested every two weeks on the AB Object Permanence Task, from the time they first reached for a hidden object until they were 12 months old. Results indicate that the AB provides an index of the ability to carry out an intention based on stored information despite a conflicting habitual tendency. (Author/RH)

Hamilton, Lawrence C. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1981
Errors in self-reports of three academic performance measures are analyzed. Empirical errors are shown to depart radically from both no-error and random-error assumptions. Self-reports by females depart farther from the no-error and random-error models for all three performance measures. (Author/BW)

Turner, David A., Jr. – TESL Talk, 1980
The ranking of acceptability accorded by 316 young native English-speaking and bilingual adults to the 11 most common morphological errors of nonnative speakers of English are correlated with the age, sex, linguistic sophistication, and bilingual status of the native speakers. (PMJ)

Spavold, J. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 1989
Describes study of 9- to 11-year-olds conducted in Great Britain that was designed to analyze the means by which elementary school children familiarized themselves with a large database. Types of error and frequency of occurrence are examined, query formulation is discussed, and the importance of keyboard skills is addressed. (nine references)…

Adigwe, J. C. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1992
This study investigated sex differences in chemical problem solving among Nigerian secondary school chemistry students (100 males and 100 females). Male students excelled over the female students in the following problem-solving processes: (1) problem understanding; (2) construction and execution of solution plans; (3) exhibition of structural…

Roulston, Sue; Loader, Sue; Northstone, Kate; Beveridge, Mike – Early Child Development and Care, 2002
The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) provided descriptive data on the speech and language of 25-month-olds. Findings indicated great range in the stage of expressive language development achieved. Girls showed more advanced skills than boys. A clear pattern was identified in use of sound classes. Child verbal comprehension…

Liski, Erkki; Puntanen, Simo – Language Learning, 1983
Analysis of error patterns in a test taken by 698 Finnish university students shows errors are made in this declining order of frequency: grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and use. More talkative students were proportionately more proficient per utterance, and higher proficiency also correlated with sex (female) and high matriculation test…

Birks, Stuart; Lage, Maureen J.; Treglia, Michael – Journal of Economic Education, 1998
Maintains that there is an inconsistency in the regression analysis of the data presented in Maureen J. Lage and Michael Treglia's 1996 article, "The Impact of Integrating Scholarship on Women into Introductory Economics." The authors admit the error, correct it, and report no difference in their original conclusions. (MJP)
