Ward, Marjorie E.; Genshaft, Judy – Exceptional Children, 1983
Suggestions and recommendations are made for using the Perkins-Binet Tests of Intelligence for the Blind for low vision and blind children. Suggestions cover such aspects as organization and preparation prior to administration and scoring. (CL)
Descriptors: Blindness, Intelligence Tests, Partial Vision, Testing

Wahl, Hans-Werner; Heyl, Vera – Generations, 2003
Discusses findings of studies that examined the relationship between vision, hearing, and cognitive function in normally aging adults. Indicates that most found at least modest significant relationships between sensory and cognitive measures based on diverse assessment and design methods. (Contains 42 references.) (JOW)

Rabin, Annette T. – Reading Teacher, 1982
Contends that improved visual screening techniques can identify gross visual problems, but reading professionals should be aware of their limitations. (FL)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Reading Difficulties, Reading Instruction, Reading Readiness

Schubert, Delwyn G. – Reading Horizons, 1985
Discusses the shortcomings of the Snellen eye chart as a vision screeing test and proposes the use of a newer test--the Modified Telebinocular Technique. (MTT)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Reading Difficulties, Reading Instruction, Student Needs
Longo, Julie; And Others – Education of the Visually Handicapped, 1982
Technology has been used to measure visual acuity with the severely or profoundly mentally retarded child. The following categories of technology have been used for assessment: the recording of visual fixation within the habituation paradigm; equipment to measure eye movements and pursuits; operant techniques; and electrodiagnostic techniques…

Geruschat, D. R. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1992
This study found that, of 18 children with severe visual and multiple impairments assessed using the Acuity Card Procedure (originally developed for assessing the visual acuity of infants), 42 percent responded. A similar group received a simple instructional intervention prior to testing and that group's response rate was 85 percent. (Author/DB)

Morse, M. T. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1992
This article describes addition of a "learn a routine" procedure to functional visual assessments of children with severe neurological and physical disabilities. The procedure capitalizes on the child's interest of the moment and provides information on the child's patterns of responses, ability to accommodate to variations of a stimulus, and…

Groenveld, M.; Jan, J. E. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1992
Analysis of scores of 118 visually impaired children on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (Revised) and the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence (Revised) found a consistent response pattern suggesting that the verbal as well as the performance tests provide useful assessment information. (Author/DB)

Bauman, Mary K.; Kropf, Carol A. – School Psychology Digest, 1979
Questionnaire results from l04 psychologists serving the blind and partially sighted indicated disagreement on the tests used and on the evaluation of these tests. Tests of all kinds from 45 publishers were rated, and appropriate ages and populations (blind, partially-sighted) were suggested. (CP)
