International Journal of Kinesiology in Higher Education, v9 n3 p212-219 2025
Professional industry experience can be a benefit to kinesiology and sport management faculty members' pedagogy. Staying abreast of changes in the industry through direct experience can inform faculty and directly influence the quality of classroom instruction. This essay asserts that one way a sport management faculty member at collegiate institutions can gain industry experience and thus improve their classroom instruction is through the role of the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) on their institution's campus. Additionally, strategies to bring the athletic department to the classroom and the classroom to the athletic department are offered. However, ideological differences may arise because of competing values between athletics interests and current sport management ethos.
