The hearing reported in this document sought to obtain information concerning the nature and extent of the problem of Americans who do not have financial access to necessary health services and are at risk for catastrophic expenses, and to examine possible solutions to the problem. Witnesses included representatives from American Airlines, the Children's Defense Fund, the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In addition, statements were submitted for the record by representatives from the American Chiropractic Association; the American Medical Association; the ERISA Industry Committee; and the Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families of the U.S. House of Representatives.
