This hearing was held to explore the use of technology in education, and how the government can better encourage its use across the country. It is hoped that hearings of this nature will draw attention to the nation's deficiencies in telecommunications and technologies in schools, and that the country will be able to fill those gaps in the near future with the help of educational experts, government agencies, telecommunications and technology companies, as well as the business community. The hearing begins with statements by Congressmen Lehman, Hastert, and Cooper. Additional testimony about the use of telecommunications technology in education was provided by the following persons: Lois Harrison-Jones, Superintendent of Boston Public Schools; John T.
