Accrediting Agencies' Legal Responsibilities: In Pursuit of the Public Interest.
Kaplin, William A.
Journal of Law and Education, v12 n1 p87-114 Jan 1983
Accrediting agencies have legally evolved from labels of "private" to "quasi-governmental" and "quasi-public." The public interest standard supports the quasi-public category and establishes that the fundamental goal for accrediting agencies is to serve the public interest by autonomy, impartiality, expertise, and public representation.
