High School and Beyond: Local Labor Market Indicators [machine-readable data file].
SMB Economic Research, Inc., Washington, DC.
The High School and Beyond (HS&B) Local Labor Market Indicators machine-readable data file (MRDF) provides various measures of the conditions of the local labor market in the geographic areas in which the 1,015 HS&B sample high schools are located. The data are presented in such a way as not to reveal the identities of the participating individuals, schools, and geographic areas. The data are arranged by and tied together solely by the random HS&B school identification code (IC) numbers, that permit the data to be merged with other HS&B files. The basic data were obtained from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). BLS provided wage data and employment data for counties, standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSAs), and states, for 1980, 1981, and 1982. BEA provided personal income data for counties, SMSAs, and states, for 1980 and 1981. Each of the 1,015 records contain 55 variables, e.g., unemployment rates, employment growth percentages, population, percentage of population employed, annual growth rate of personal income, per capita personal income. Comparisons are provided between the data for each area and the national average for the data for the same period. POPULATION: High Schools (24,725). SAMPLE: High Schools (1,015). TYPE OF SURVEY: National Survey; Sample Survey. RESPONDENTS: Household Members, Employers, State Unemployment Offices. FREQUENCY: Once. YEAR OF FIRST DATA: 1980. (CDM)
