Weather Fundamentals: Meteorology. [Videotape].
The videos in this educational series, for grades 4-7, help students understand the science behind weather phenomena through dramatic live-action footage, vivid animated graphics, detailed weather maps, and hands-on experiments. This episode (23 minutes) looks at how meteorologists gather and interpret current weather data collected from sources such as weather maps, weather stations, satellites, airplanes, weather ships, and weather balloons. This video explores how patterns in air pressure, cloud cover, wind speed, precipitation, and temperature can be used to create a picture of approaching weather. A visit to the offices of the National Weather Service (NWS) is also depicted. The program includes a Teacher's Guide featuring additional information, vocabulary words, discussion questions, follow-up activities, and lists of suggested books and Internet resources. (WRM)
