This research gathered data from a sample of university students with disabilities (and a control group without disabilities) from two university campuses (one urban and the other suburban). The project examined the current work and school experiences, plans upon graduation, and understanding of major legislation designed to protect against workplace discrimination (based on their disability). The research used a semi-structured interview guide to conduct 30-min interviews. In total, 24 students with disabilities and eight students without disabilities (control group) participated in this study. This case illustrates the following research concepts: (a) research study design for a project with a population that may need accommodation, (b) protocol design to gather sensitive information, (c) institutional review board considerations for research on populations that may not be able to give consent, (d) recruitment of subjects with disabilities, and (e) analysis planning for qualitative research.
