They include: (1) basic cancer data (considering how cancer works, trends in diagnosis and treatment, new cancer cases and deaths for 1985, and other areas); (2) major cancer sites (discussing lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, 5-year survival rates/trends for selected sites for 1950-54 to 1977-81, leukemia, and other areas); (3) cancer by age and race (including data on cancer in children and trends in survival by site of cancer by race); (4) prevention (examining primary prevention, secondary prevention, nutrition and cancer, early detection of colorectal cancer, and smoking); (5) cancer control (discussing public education, professional education, service and rehabilitation, costs of cancer, and 30-year trends in age-adjusted cancer death rates per 100,000 population); (6) research (examining the relationship between the American Cancer Society (ACS) and research, discussing cancer and the environment, and providing data on ACS research grants and fellowships for the fiscal year ending on August 31, 1984; and (7) the American Cancer Society (with information on allocation of ACS funds for 1983-84, sources of ACS income, cancer's seven warning signals, cancer around the world, and comprehensive cancer centers).
