Council for Financial Aid to Education, New York, NY.; Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Washington, DC.; National Association of Independent Schools, Boston, MA.
Results of the 1985-1986 Survey of Voluntary Support of Education are presented, including a narrative summary and detailed statistical tables. Reports of voluntary support are presented for 1,194 two-year and four-year colleges and universities and 473 independent precollege schools. The tables for each institution cover: total financial support, support for current operations, support for specific capital purposes, and the sources of support (e.g., alumni, foundations, religious organizations). National estimates of voluntary support to higher education are provided by source and purpose for 1975-1976 to 1985-1986. Data are included on voluntary support in relation to enrollment, inflation and institutional expenditures for 1949, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1984, and 1985. Voluntary support for 1985-1986 is detailed by type of college/university and changes from the previous year. Also covered are: funding to different types of colleges through matching-gift programs and gifts of property; gifts donated for specific purposes; support with restrictions on its use; and gifts from individuals for current operations in the amount of "under $5,000" or "$5,000 or more."
