Iowa as a Destination for Out-of-State Students: State-to-State Migration of Students to Iowa
Greiner, Keith; Girardi, Tony
Online Submission
This report describes the migration of college students into Iowa to attend colleges and universities in the state. The report suggests that there is more than a three-to-one ratio of arrivals to departures, and the state economy is improved by the presence of out-of-state students. Together, the first-year students who came to Iowa contributed $258 million dollars to the state economy in the 2004-2005 academic year. The report shows the sources of first-year students, indicating that states with the highest level of out-of-state students studying in Iowa are Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Missouri. Appended is: Residence and Migration of All Freshmen Students in Degree-Granting Institutions, by State: Fall 2004. (Contains 4 tables and 2 maps.)
