Annual Poll 2024-25: Parents' and Guardians' Opinions on K-12 Public Education in New Orleans. Poll Policy Brief No. 2
Cowen Institute
Cowen Institute polls provide insights into how parents and guardians view New Orleans' uniquely decentralized K-12 public education system. This is the second of two briefs on the 2024-2025 poll, which is based on polling conducted in the fall of 2024. The survey polled 1,000 public and private school parents and guardians in Orleans Parish, as well as a small number who homeschool their children, to capture the experiences and attitudes of a wide range of parents. This brief covers the following issues: (1) Policy changes in schools; (2) FAFSA; (3) Postsecondary education; (4) High school courses; (5) Employment; and (6) Life after high school. As seen in the first brief, findings reinforce that income, education, and race greatly impact the way parents and guardians can access education resources in the city, and the educational and employment pathways their children pursue after graduating high school.
