Guest Editorial: The "NGSS" Case Studies: All Standards, All Students
Miller, Emily; Januszyk, Rita
Science and Children, v51 n5 p10-13 Jan 2014
To teachers of diverse classrooms, more rigorous standards in science may seem intimidating, as the past years of rigid accountability have failed to close the achievement gap. However, the "Next Generation Science Standards" ("NGSS") were written with all students in mind, with input and full review by a diversity and equity team. This team also assembled case studies that explore how "NGSS" standards can be effectively applied in real classroom settings. The intent is for the case studies to inspire teachers of diverse classrooms to teach standards equitably to all of their students. This article presents an opinion piece about case studies that explore how "NGSS" standards can be effectively applied in real classroom settings.
