Musical Spirituality: Reflections on Identity and the Ethics of Embodied Aesthetic Experience in/ and the Academy
Bogdan, Deanne
Journal of Aesthetic Education, v37 n2 p80-98 Sum 2003
Throughout the history of Eastern and Western thought, the spiritual quality of musical experience has been associated with religion or religious experience. The author writes auto biographically and shares the evolution of her own musical spirituality. An inquiry is launched into the relationship between musical spirituality, and her struggle with the discursive and nondiscursive in academic life. She takes her cue from a number of feminist writers and theorists who validate the cultural and academic significance of crossings between personal history and intellectual life. This article, she takes to be one such crossing.
