Teaching Evaluation Is Very Necessary at Institutions of Higher Education
Daren, Huang
Chinese Education and Society, v42 n2 p56-57 Mar-Apr 2009
Government supervision over the quality of higher education by means of evaluations, examinations and verifications, or accreditations is a common international practice in terms of monitoring and controlling the quality of higher education. Many countries stipulate by law that institutions of higher education must submit to evaluation by the government or by evaluation agencies accredited by the government. Not a few developed countries in the West also implement evaluation of higher education by means of setting up special agencies as well as nongovernmental bodies acknowledged by the government. That is why colleges and universities in the United States apply for accreditation proactively and on their own initiative. Hence, the author of this article maintains that it is most necessary for colleges and universities to undergo evaluation. Of course, there are indeed some problems in today's evaluation that need to be overcome, but that should not negate the work of teaching evaluation.
