A general overview of the literature on adolescent fertility and closely related issues is provided in this annotated bibliography. Material on the following topics is included: (1) programs related to adolescent pregnancy, contraception, abortion, and births; (2) studies relating socioeconomic characteristics of pregnant adolescents to their reproductive behavior; (3) health aspects of adolescent childbearing and medical risks; (4) legitimacy of births; and (5) prenatal care and services for adolescents. Most of the materials were published in the last 15 years. After an initial section dealing with global aspects of adolescent reproductive behavior, entries are organized alphabetically by country under regional headings. References were obtained from the following sources: (1) POPLINE database available through the MEDLARS system of the United States National Library of Medicine; (2) DOCPAL database, maintained by the Latin American Demographic Centre in Santiago, Chile; (3) the 1985 Population Report from the Population Information Program at the Johns Hopkins University; (4) the International Planned Parenthood Federation Bibliography; (5) the National Council on Family Planning Bibliography; (6) the Carolina Population Center Bibliography, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and (6) correspondence with governments and organizations worldwide.
