TRIO Student Support Services: First-Generation, Low-Income, and Disabled Students. UCLA Community College Bibliography
Ruiz, Eddy A.
Community College Journal of Research and Practice, v32 n8 p629-635 Aug 2008
The research citations and resource materials presented here examine Student Support Services, one of eight federally funded TRIO programs designed to increase retention and degree attainment. Student Support Services attempts to bridge the transition from high school to college for over 280,000 first-generation, low-income, and disabled students at approximately 930 higher education institutions. The bibliography provides national statistics and quantitative and case study research. The findings exhibit a dearth of research, conflicting educational outcomes, and policy implications. This area of inquiry has broad implications for practitioners, administration, research inquiry, and federal support for underserved student populations.
