American Urban Studies Programs: An Inventory and Analysis of Undergraduate and Graduate Urban Studies Programs.
Roth, Roberta; Waiwada, Mark
This research identifies urban-oriented interdisciplinary instructional programs currently being offered at colleges and universities throughout the United States, presents an overall analysis of these programs, and ascertain the vocational and educational areas of pursuit chosen by graduates of these programs. Following a description of the survey, 144 colleges and universities identified as having urban studies programs are listed. Data presented for each institutions include: title of program and degree, emphasis, founding dates, program changes, admission requirements, special teaching methods, students enrolled, faculty, program graduates, follow-up on graduates. Conclusions indicate: (1) Urban studies are increasingly offered at both undergraduate and graduate levels. (2) Further expansion and development of programs in urban studies is foreseen. (3) Graduates of urban studies programs choose to pursue a wide variety of vocational and educational areas. No one specific area predominates. (MJM)
