Conservation Plants for the Northeast. Program Aid No. 1154.
Descriptions of plants suited to specific conservation uses under different site conditions in the Northeast United States are presented in this booklet. The plants are classified into categories based on conservation use. These include: (1) plants for disturbed areas; (2) ornamental ground covers; (3) plants for coastal dunes and sandy inland areas; (4) wildlife food and cover plants; and (5) plants for screens, hedges, and windbreaks. Each plant is identified by its common and scientific name, climatic zone, main conservation use, growth rate, soil and site conditions, and its particular features. Suggestions for establishing plants are offered and specific planting methods are outlined for the plants discussed in the booklet. An index to the plants is also included. (ML)
