This booklet is intended to help high school students approaching graduation identify sources of financial assistance for postsecondary education. A question-and-answer format is used in the 10 sections which address the following topics: (1) general information (what is available from the Department of Education, criteria for applying, how to apply); (2) telephone numbers (sources of assistance in filling out applications for financial aid); (3) Federal Pell Grants (how much one can receive, how the grants are paid); (4) loans for students (how to apply for a Stafford Loan, how the funds are provided, interest accumulation, financial limits, repayment procedures); (5) loans for parents (application procedures, criteria, financial limits to the loans, who receives the funds, interest rate, repayment procedures); (6) common loan questions (charges other than interest, repayment schedules, cancellations); (7) campus-based aid (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Work-Study, Federal Perkins Loans); and (8) general questions (how to avoid borrowing too much, what to do next).
