This manual contains descriptions of all required and optional data elements used by LONESTAR, the computer-based student follow-up and tracking system developed for Texas community colleges. For each element, the following information is provided: (1) element title (i.e., the official name used in all references to the element in tracking system documents and communications); (2) element number (i.e., an identification number indicating the tracking system file in which the element resides and its position within that file); (3) indication of whether the element is required or optional; (4) short name for the element; (5) a full definition of the attribute or characteristic to which the element refers; (6) the source of the definition; (7) element type (i.e., numeric or alphanumeric); (8) element length in digits or characters; (9) code category; (10) descriptive name of the tracking system file in which the data element initially resides; and (11) the source of the data, including information on the data collection procedure used and the location of the data in the local student record system. The data elements are listed in the dictionary in the order in which they occur in tracking system files. An index provides a complete cross reference for all data elements in alphabetical order by element title. (AJL)
