Gale, Robert J. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1982
Presented are simple programs in BASIC and FORTRAN to apply the method of least squares. They calculate gradients and intercepts and express errors as standard deviations. An introduction of undergraduate students to such programs in a chemistry class is reviewed, and issues instructors should be aware of are noted. (MP)

Computer Simulation of a Microbial Genetics Experiment as a Learning Aid for Undergraduate Teaching.

Day, M. J.; And Others – Journal of Biological Education, 1983
Reports design of an interactive computer program (FORTRAN) in microbial genetics. The program is divided into three stages: background information, simulation, and data treatment. Results obtained from the simulation allow four genes to be sequenced along the bacterial chromosome. The simulation mimics experimental errors and production of…

Anderson, Sabra S. – Mathematics and Computer Education, 1982
Details are given of a university course that utilizes computer programing to help students explore aspects of number theory. The course is thought to provide acceleration of the discovery process to the point where pupils can study a full range of topics. (MP)

Walrand, Jacques; And Others – Computers and Education, 1983
Describes a simple and inexpensive interface to be used for data acquisition and control of some experiments in an undergraduate physics laboratory. Two specific applications are presented. Seven references are listed. (Author/MBR)

Morrison, E.; Cursiter, M. – Computer Education, 1982
The use of an Apple II microcomputer as support for nutrition instruction with home economics, nursing, and catering students is detailed. The work done so far is viewed as successful and encouraging. The direction of new ideas to exploit the color and graphics capabilities of the Apple is noted. (MP)

Flerackers, E. L. M.; And Others – Physics Education, 1984
Suggests a method treating geometric optics using a microcomputer to do the calculations of image formation. Calculations are based on the connection between the composition of lenses and the mathematics of fractional linear equations. Logic of the analysis and an example problem are included. (JM)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Programs, Higher Education

Nickel, Stanley L. – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1982
A three-lecture unit is described in which fourth-year undergraduate pharmacy students at the University of Toledo are taught basic nutrition principles. Students participate in lecture preparation through a nutrition attitude and knowledge survey and a 10-day diet inventory that is analyzed by computer program. (MSE)

Carswell, D. J.; Mihkelson, A. E. – Education in Chemistry, 1980
The authors discuss microcomputers and their usefulness in the undergraduate program. The results from a questionnaire indicate their high degree of success with students. (SA)

Volz, Richard A.; And Others – 1978
This work represents the development of computer tools for undergraduate students. Emphasis is on automatic control theory using hybrid and digital computation. The routine calculations of control system analysis are presented as students would use them on the University of Michigan's central digital computer and the time-shared graphic terminals…

Barr, Ronald E.; And Others – Engineering Education, 1984
Discusses computer graphics and computer-aided design in the freshman engineering program at the University of Texas at Austin. Procedure uses interactive modules that do not require any programing skills. An annotated test of modules used and suggested approaches that might be useful at other schools are included. (BC)
Descriptors: Computer Graphics, Computer Programs, Computers, Course Descriptions
Adams, David R., Ed.; Athey, Thomas H., Ed. – 1982
Designed primarily for 4-year undergraduate programs for business applications programmer/analysts offered through schools of business or through applied computer science programs that require a concentration of business courses, these guidelines are based on national and regional conferences, questionnaire surveys, and consultation with computer…

McCord, Michael T.; Ingle, Robert – 1982
The procedures for producing a report on departmental service to nonmajors are described in detail. The objective was to provide information for decision-making needs without reliance on the standardized pre-packaged models. An alternative to the Induced Course Load Matrix (ICLM) of the Resource Requirements Prediction Model (RRPM) package of the…

Burger, H. Robert – Journal of Geological Education, 1984
Describes 70 computer programs related to (1) structural geology; (2) sedimentology and stratigraphy; and (3) the environment, groundwater, glacial geology, and oceanography. Potential use(s), language, required hardware, and sources are included. (JM)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction, Computer Programs, Engineering

Leggett, D. J. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1983
Describes a procedure used to optimize instrument performance as taught in a fourth-year undergraduate instrumental analysis course. Gives rules for fixed and variable size simplex and discusses calculations. Also explains use of computer simulation of instruments as a tool in teaching the simplex technique. (JM)
Descriptors: College Science, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Programs, Higher Education
Lyons, Thomas R. – Pipeline, 1981
Computer-assisted instruction in the College Expository Writing Program (CEWP) at the University of Colorado at Boulder is detailed. The current challenge is to develop packages that deal with the organizational, semantic, and stylistic elements of composition. (MP)
