This document describes the development and implementation of curriculum to train adult basic education students who are considering clerical careers in the legal and medical fields. The 17-page project report outlines the following aspects: (1) development of an entry-level math and English curriculum; (2) use of computer simulation for legal or medical work environments; (3) completion of the 160-hour course by 19 students; and (4) follow-up of student progress and referral to appropriate further training. A list of software used by the project and a list of nine recommended publications follow the report. The legal outline contains learning objectives and topics for 8 weeks of instruction. The medical outline contains learning objectives, topics for 8 weeks of instruction, student worksheets and/or quizzes, and their answers. A description of competency measurement is followed by sample student progress records from the pre/posttests. Other contents are as follows: sample materials from the Northampton Community College clerical curriculum; class handouts (enrollment procedures, application, schedules, rules, follow-up form); and student evaluations of both the legal and medical courses.
