Finding Buddha in the Clay Studio: Lessons for Art Therapy
Wardi-Zonna, Katherine
Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, v37 n1 p42-45 2020
Clay is an effective medium in art therapy insofar as it promotes mindfulness, acceptance, and a keen awareness of impermanence. Specifically, Buddhist-inspired lessons of meditative practices permeate the clay studio and embody ceramic arts techniques such as wabi-sabi and kintsugi. Of all art media, clay offers a hands-on approach that facilitates a present-moment experience that is particularly well suited to contemplative engagement.
