This article examines what ideas college students have, ideas that are characteristic of the culture of Russia, concerning the norms of distributive fairness as they apply to different types of situations. Problems revolving around fairness in the sphere of distribution have traditionally been of relevance in Russian social studies. The authors' starting position is that a person's understanding and assessment of fairness in specific situations are always subjective. At the same time, the authors concur with K. Leung and W.G. Stephan, who point out that judgments having to do with fairness are connected to the choice of the principles of fairness and the criteria of their applicability, although there are specific dispositions linked to the culture that determine the application of the norms of fairness.
