Chung, Seungwon; Houts, Carrie – Measurement: Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives, 2020
Advanced modeling of item response data through the item response theory (IRT) or item factor analysis frameworks is becoming increasingly popular. In the social and behavioral sciences, the underlying structure of tests/assessments is often multidimensional (i.e., more than 1 latent variable/construct is represented in the items). This review…

Trochim, William M. K. – American Journal of Evaluation, 1998
Summarizes the points made by M. Scriven and adds some evaluative comments by the present author. Scriven's notion of minimalist evaluation is given a strong "thumbs-up," but his definition of evaluation receives a "thumbs-down" for not standing up to close scrutiny. Birckmayer, Johanna D.; Weiss, Carol Hirschon – Evaluation Review, 2000
Examined six published papers using a theory-based evaluation (TBE) approach. Found that authors of the papers did not always make explicit the relation of their data to the theory of the program. Murphy, Cheryl A. – Computers in Human Behavior, 1995
Evaluates six "open" (empty of content and customized by users) software programs using the literature-based characteristics of documentation, learner control, branching capabilities, portability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness. Interviewed computer-knowledgeable individuals to confirm the legitimacy of the evaluative characteristics. (LRW)

Morris, Michael; Schwandt, Thomas A.; Bonnet, Deborah G. – American Journal of Evaluation, 1998
In the evaluation scenario presented, that of a mentoring program matching high school juniors and seventh graders, the external evaluator is asked for impact information before enough time has elapsed to provide really meaningful data. The commentators, T. A. Schwandt and D. G. Bonnet, take different approaches to what the evaluator should do.…
