Armellini, Alejandro; Hawkridge, David – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2012
Following a brief introduction, our paper is in four main sections. First, we lay out the points on which we agree with James Mazoue's views expressed in "The Deconstructed Campus." Second, we offer a critique of his views. Third, we consider evidence-based research opportunities for building universities that may incorporate ideas along the lines…

Hung, Jui-Long; Zhang, Ke – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2012
This study investigated the longitudinal trends of academic articles in Mobile Learning (ML) using text mining techniques. One hundred and nineteen (119) refereed journal articles and proceedings papers from the SCI/SSCI database were retrieved and analyzed. The taxonomies of ML publications were grouped into twelve clusters (topics) and four…

Tamim, Rana M.; Lowerison, Gretchen; Schmid, Richard F.; Bernard, Robert M.; Abrami, Philip C. – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2011
This study investigated the change in the relationship between pedagogy, computer-use and students' perceptions about course-effectiveness over time. Students from a Canadian university completed a questionnaire in two different years (2003 = 1,834 participants and 2007 = 1,866 participants). Of greatest interest were characteristics of technology…

Bers, Marina; Chau, Clement – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2010
This paper presents a pre-orientation program for incoming college students, Active Citizenship through Technology (ACT), that engaged students in civic dialogue early in their academic experience while fostering a long-term peer support network. It leveraged youth's interest in Internet technologies to engage them in civic discussions and…

Bangert, Arthur – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2008
This study explored the use of Garrison, Anderson, and Archer's (2000) version of Dewey's (1933) practical inquiry model for assessing the influence of social presence and teaching presence on the quality of critical inquiry experienced by online learners. Students (N = 33) enrolled in an online version of a graduate-level, educational statistics…

Hannafin, Michael J.; Kim, Minchi C.; Kim, Hyeonjin – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 2004
Web-based teaching and learning cannot be easily characterized. In Web-based teaching and learning, technology features are combined in a theoretically unlimited number of ways to support a multitude of requirements and preferences. We need to better understand different approaches, activities, goals and perspectives, and approaches likely to…

Gasen, Jean B.; Preece, Jenny – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1996
Analyzes influences shaping human-computer interaction (HCI) in higher education, from two sources: internal (faculty, students, administrative units) and external (business/industry, government agencies, professional bodies). Examines nature and interrelationships of HCI components (research, education, professional training). Proposes a…

McLellan, Hilary – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1994
Discussion of the use of virtual reality in higher education looks at how this emerging computer-based technology can promote learning that engages all seven forms of intelligence proposed in H. Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. Technical and conceptual issues in implementation of virtual reality in education are also examined.…

Kearsley, Greg – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1992
A study used hypertext to analyze links between 45 learning/instructional theories, 18 concepts, and 17 learning domains in the Theory into Practice (TIP) database. Results suggest that there is less overlap in theories of learning and instruction than commonly assumed. Use of this kind of tool for research and practice is discussed. (MSE)
