The result of a detailed 2-year space needs analysis of the University of Idaho Library, this study focuses on the three primary space requirement elements of users, collection components, and library staff and support services. A summary of issues and recommendations is presented, and the following specific subjects are considered in detail: (1) library organization, (2) existing facilities and site, (3) current issues and trends in library operations, (4) collections, (5) reader and library staff space, and (6) options for meeting the library's space needs. Appendices contain the University of Idaho Long-Range Plan, a square footage analysis of selected areas of the University of Idaho Library seating, and a listing of members of the Western Library Network. Footnotes, a bibliography, 25 tables, and 26 illustrations, including library plans, supplement the text. (KM)
