Hanson, Sandra L.; Tuch, Steven A. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1984
Notes the inconsistent findings that characterize research on marital instability and proposes several potential methodological sources of these inconsistencies. Presents an illustrative application to data from two recent national representative probability samples. (JAC)
Descriptors: Etiology, Marital Instability, Models, Predictor Variables

Huba, George J.; Bentler, Peter M. – Journal of Drug Education, 1983
Reexamined previous statistical comparisons of two models for adolescent drug abuse using new statistical estimation methods in causal modeling not requiring assumptions about normally distributed variables. An asymptotically distribution free method shows that the models fit even better than assumed in the initial work. (Author/JAC)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Comparative Analysis, Data Analysis, Drug Abuse

McLaughlin, Steven D.; Otto, Luther B. – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1981
With the development of refined theory and increased measurement sophistication in family research, multidimensional concepts and multiple indicators are appearing in the literature. This paper provides a nonmathematical introduction to canonical correlation analysis and three empirical examples that demonstrate the technique's applicability in…

Rank, Mark R.; Sabatelli, Ronald M. – 1982
This paper discusses path analysis and the applicability of this methodology to the field of family studies. The statistical assumptions made in path analysis are presented along with a description of the two types of models within path analysis, i.e., recursive and non-recursive. Methods of calculating in the path model and the advantages of…

Bickel, William E.; Conley, William W. – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1985
An overview is presented of decision-oriented educational research, based on experiences in a large urban school district and on the literature. Alternative definitions of research use and evaluation use are discussed, with particular attention to the dissemination of research outcomes. (GDC)
Descriptors: Action Research, Decision Making, Educational Administration, Educational Research

Slavin, Robert E. – Educational Researcher, 1990
Explores reasons for the tenuous relationship between educational research and educational practice. Suggests changes in research and policy to bring educational research directly to bear on educational problems. The major problem is that researchers are searching for variables that relate to improved outcomes, whereas educational innovators are…
