Child Support: State Progress in Developing Automated Enforcement Systems. Fact Sheet for Congressional Requesters.
General Accounting Office, Washington, DC. Div. of Human Resources.
In a background report and five appendices, this fact sheet reviews the automation status of state child support enforcement programs, giving particular attention to the status of automation efforts, state and federal officials' views, and reasons for progress or lack of progress. Information was obtained primarily by telephone interviews of officials in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. As of May 1988, each of the 54 governmental units reported using some automation for its Child Support Enforcement Program. Provided in Appendix I are requirements for enhanced funding; in Appendix II, the status of state automated systems as of May 1988; in Appendix III, views of state and Office of Child Support Enforcement officials on state progress in automating systems; and, in Appendix IV, comments from the Department of Health and Human Services. Appendix V lists major contributors to the fact sheet. (RH)
