Argues that there is discernable intellectual content to the religious cultural tradition that is dependent on application of human reason to propositions of received theology, philosophy, and empirical research. Discusses this process in terms of (1) ordination candidates, (2) lay churchgoers, and (3) lay nonchurchgoers. (CH)
