Argues that geographic proximity, military necessity, economic interdependence, and cultural affinity have created a unique bilateral relationship between the United States and Canada. However, recent developments in U.S.-Canadian relations have begun to alter this friendship. Concludes that Canada will begin to assert a greater degree of independence than in the past. (BSR)
