Steps toward a Science of Free Will.
Howard, George S.
Counseling and Values, v37 n3 p116-28 Apr 1993
Conceptual confusion might lie at heart of free will-determinism controversy. Reconceptualizing issue by positing independent bipolar dimensions (determinism versus nondeterminism and self-determination versus nonagentic mechanism) seems to create conceptual space for belief in both free will and determinism. Recent agentic theories of human action suggest joint action of agentic self-determination and nonagentic causation in genesis of human behavior. (Author/NB)
