The German apprenticeship system and the Danish "sandwich" system impart the following lessons for school-to-work transition in the United States: employers actively develop, manage, and implement systems; links are made between educational and employment needs of students and needs of companies; and coalitions/local intermediary organizations such as chambers of commerce and unions play an important role.
