Parkerson, Jo Ann; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
This article evaluates five causal model of educational productivity applied to learning science in a sample of 882 fifth through eighth graders. Huynh, Huynh; Saunders, Joseph C. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1980
Single administration (beta-binomial) estimates for the raw agreement index p and the corrected-for-chance kappa index in mastery testing are compared with those based on two test administrations in terms of estimation bias and sampling variability. Bias is about 2.5 percent for p and 10 percent for kappa. (Author/RL)

Holmes, Susan E.; Doody-Bogan, Evelyn N. – 1983
The accuracy of trait estimates obtained from three vertical equating methods was examined. The procedures studied included two anchor test designs and a single-group design. Data from two content areas and two grade combinations were studied. A three-parameter logistic model was used to perform the equatings. The results obtained were used to…

Karweit, Nancy; Slavin, Robert E. – American Educational Research Journal, 1981
The consequences of using alternative measures of time and achievement are examined in an observational study of 18 elementary school classes. The extent to which choice of the same model linking time and learning for all students was implicated in the inconsistent results is examined. (Author/GK)

Li, Yuan H. – 2001
The primary objective of this study was to examine the construct validity of two multiple-content testing programs, the multiple-choice Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS/5) and the performance-based Maryland School Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP), by evaluating the true-score longitudinal associations among multiple-content scores…

Thompson, Bruce – Third Education Group Review, 2006
Value-added models, which rate schools for effectiveness while taking into account the poverty and other socioeconomic status of the students, are generating increased interest. This paper describes the use of one such model to evaluate whether school ratings changed when three new programs were introduced: the "Target Teach" curriculum…

Estes, Gary D. – 1979
Normative data reported by publishers of the California Achievement Test, the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills, and the SRA Assessment Survey were used to illustrate a procedure for specifying goals for Title I programs in terms of normal curve equivalent (NCE) gains. The procedure was based on the amount of growth reflected in student reading…

Arter, Judith A.; Estes, Gary D. – 1978
The validity of the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) and problems associated with inappropriate norms were investigated in eleven senior high schools in Phoenix, Arizona. CTBS validity was assessed in three ways: (1) correlation between test scores and number of courses taken in that subject; (2) correlation between CTBS scores and…

Yen, Wendy M. – 1979
Three test-analysis models were used to analyze three types of simulated test score data plus the results of eight achievement tests. Chi-square goodness-of-fit statistics were used to evaluate the appropriateness of the models to the four kinds of data. Data were generated to simulate the responses of 1,000 students to 36 pseudo-items by…

Yen, Wendy M. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1993
Results from the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program for 5,392 elementary school students and from the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (multiple choice) for a national sample are used to explore local item independence (LID) of test items. Some strategies are suggested for measuring LID in performance assessments. (SLD)

Faddis, Bonnie J.; And Others – 1979
Ninth grade Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Title I evaluation results in reading and English-writing projects were compared, using the RMC Model A with local empirical norms, Model A with national interpolated norms, and Model B. The Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS)--Total Reading and Total Language subtests--were administered…
