Summerlin, Mary Lue; And Others – School Counselor, 1983
Examined the effectiveness of the Magic Circle program in improving the self-concept of 19 first-grade students. Results showed that children in the experimental group had higher scores on both self-domain and self-concept measures than control students, indicating they better understood the elements of causality in human relationships. Tested the value of a developmental play (DP) program with a group of emotionally disturbed children (N=8). Results indicated that DP had a positive impact on the lives of both the children and the teacher, who reported that learning occurring in the group sessions generalized to the classroom. (LLL)

A study of the development of high school students' self-social relationships indicated a need for a concentrated program on personal growth and development in tenth grade when individual identities are forming. High school students scored highest on the self-complexity and self-centrality tests. Developmental trends for sex were also indicated.…
