Drake, Frederick C. – Teaching History: A Journal of Methods, 1986

Tests the validity of a teaching strategy designed to help students learn to think historically. The method offers a rationale for understanding why historians may arrive at differing conclusions. Results of the study (n = 39) indicate a significant improvement in the experimental group concept of history. (TRS)

A "Great Issues" Format in the American History Survey: Analysis of a Pilot Project.

Presents results of a study in which a "Great Issues" format was utilized in a U.S. history survey course. Describes the teaching methods and instructional resources used in the pilot study. Finds that both students and instructors enjoyed the experience, and student discussion and analytical skills improved. (CFR)
