A. K. Somasekhar; Arunita Tushar Jagzape; Meenakshi Sinha; Ramanjan Sinha – Advances in Physiology Education, 2024
The significance of assessment in driving learning is undeniable, particularly in oral assessments like viva voce where students express themselves verbally. However, traditional viva voce examinations' challenges include reliability, objectivity, content validity, time constraints, varying question difficulty levels, inconsistency in questioning…

Frisch, Emily H.; Greb, Alexandra C.; Youm, Julie H.; Wiechmann, Warren F.; Greenberg, Milton L. – Advances in Physiology Education, 2021
We introduced the AliveCor KardiaMobile electrocardiogram (ECG), a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved, iPad-enabled medical device, into the preclerkship curriculum to demonstrate the clinical relevance of cardiac electrophysiology with active learning. An evaluation showed that medical students considered the KardiaMobile ECG active…

Jermann, William H.; Watkins, Melinda G. – COED Transactions, 1980
Described is the use of a general purpose hybrid computer in controlling and monitoring certain experiments on human subjects. In these investigations, researchers produce various sensory stimuli and measure participants' responses as voltage produced at a scalp node. The computer system discussed facilitates implementation of these experiments as…

Dagenais, Paul A. – Volta Review, 1992
In three studies, profoundly hearing-impaired children received speech training using a computerized, physiologically based system in which glossometry or palatometry measures were displayed. Overall, results suggest that visually based speech training is a feasible alternative to traditional auditorily based training. (Author/JDD)

Michael, Joel A. – Physiologist, 1983
Presents a summary of responses to a brief survey of physiology chairpersons (N=117) on use of computer-based education (CBE) materials in physiology and an overview of discussions that occurred at a workshop focusing on this topic. Indicates that the popular use of materials is for simulations of physiological systems. (JN)
