Teuber, Hartmut; And Others – Sign Language Studies, 1980
Describes a method for organizing, storing, and retrieving lexical data from computerized files of American Sign Language. The results of sample searches of the dictionary files are presented with a discussion of how these files and applications might be expanded. The lexicon is useful for researchers and teachers of sign languages. (Author/PJM)

Muiznieks, Viktors – 1978
This basic introduction to microcomputers provides the neophyte with the terminology, definitions, and concepts that explain the microcomputer and computing technology in general. Mathematical operations with binary numbers, computer storage, controlling logic, and the concepts of stack and interrupt are explained. (RAO)

Tucker, Paul Thomas – 1975
Interactive computers are providing more services to greater numbers of users. However, before such systems can be economically applied to public education, the cost of high performance memory must be reduced. By using massive amounts of serial memory in conjunction with a highly sophisticated memory controller, a system was constructed which…

Park, Theresa – 1974
The Occupational Shortages Reporting System (OSRS) is a computerized system developed to produce quick and accurate reports on occupational shortages for given time periods and given occupations in Texas. The system's salient features are: easy and fast retrievability of information; expandability of the data base (from the present 1,254…

Collins, Allan M. – 1973
The purposes of this study were to determine the nature of human semantic memory and to obtain knowledge usable in the future development of computer systems that can converse with people. The work was based on a computer model which is designed to comprehend English text, relating the text to information stored in a semantic data base that is…

Navarre, Carolyn E.; Stovall, Anthony M. – 1976
This paper describes a locally-developed multi-purpose system that stores data about any number of special collections within the libraries and prints that data in a number of formats on demand or as scheduled reports. The system operates on an IBM 360/67 dual processer with data entry via a teleprocessing system. The key to the file is the call…

Aronson, Jules – 1977
This report delineates the theory and terminology of data compression. It surveys four data compression methods--null suppression, pattern substitution, statistical encoding, and telemetry compression--and relates them to a standard statistical coding problem, i.e., the noiseless coding problem. The well defined solution to that problem can serve…

Creager, John A.
The report specifies the design of the data entry system for the Sample Data System subsystems (SDS-1 and SDS-2) providing connectability to meet previously specified purposes and functions of the Management Information System for Occupational Education (MISOE). General assumptions for specifying the SDS data entry system are stated including the…

Martin, Thomas H. – 1974
The command language features of 11 on-line information retrieval systems are presented in terms of the functional needs of a searcher sitting at a terminal. Functional areas considered are: becoming familiar with the system, receiving help when in trouble, regulating usage, selecting a data base, formulating simple queries, expressing single…

Ebersole, Joseph L. – 1970
Improvements in the technology associated with the information sciences will have their primary potential impact on the distribution of costs, information flow level, information availability, and use among information channels. This improvement implied not only a capability to perform a given function, but a lower cost. For example, the trend…
